Thoughts from the AMEN Pew #62 – End of 2022 Edition

Well first, let me go ahead and apologize for the lack of posts. Its been almost three weeks, and I haven’t done any preaching.

There is one main reason for that. Been out living my best life. Took a vacation to take in some snow before the holidays. And then I had family in town RIGHT after the holidays. So its been back to back.

Couldn’t let the year end without some random preaching, so here we go.

Lets start with the topic de jour.

I saw Glass Onion. Normally, this would get a full review from me, but its the holidays. Life is hard.

Overall, I liked it. Not as much as Knives Out (which has the distinction of being the last movie I saw in the theater), but I did enjoy it. Its the character work that carries the film. Character work and theming.

This is the first movie I have seen that really put COVID in it and handled it well. So bonus points for that. Plus the overall theme of the worship of the wealthy really stands out.

I would say its biggest flaws is the twist. We spend way too much dead time rexploring the old plot with this new lens. For the most part it works, but when it doesn’t, it really drags.

My biggest fear leaving this movie is if Rian Johnson will run out of steam before the next one. Cause some of this ground felt a bit too familiar. I suppose we will see.

Elon tweeted out some bullshit recently that resparked an old debate in our house. The older I get, the more I think John Green (see below) was right. The worship of Batman as a concept may be just another fucking thing on the pile of stupid bullshit that people want to make real in real life. Like religion.

Elon should go for it. I would love to see him get fucking rolled up the second he shows up in the street.

But more to the point, social media was a fucking mistake. And we are all better off not being on it.

With 3 days left, I cant express how much I want this year to end. During that artic storm earlier this week, I had a tree fall into my yard and across the road. Had to get out a saw and cut it out the road myself. I’m going to have to pay to get that thing taken out.

And its just like….I cannot express how much I am looking forward to this year ending. It has been a dumpster fire from beginning to end, and I have no remorse about seeing it go. It is a year I could have done without.

After getting the rona, I have found that I lost a mess of my COVID anxiety. I just went to the same Christmas event this year that I ranted on last year.

This year, no anxiety. I saw 0 masks this time around.

I mean, there is going to be fresh Rona all around. Humanity has decided its probably worth 4-10 million dead world wide annually just to party. So you know, fuck it. I can’t find that much of a rising tide.

Despite having a holiday filled with travel, family, and bullshit, I did manage to ride the brown hornet and play WoW.

I will say, in a rare turn, the internet was right. Blizz clearly needed a full reset. This has been the best expansion to play since Legion. And its possible it could top that as the patches go on.

You don’t have to do any extra bullshit, of which there is tons. You can level a toon just playing battlegrounds and be fully honor geared at max level. Then you can do whatever you want. Fucking glorious. Easily better than the last 2 expansions on that note period.

There are….rough edges to be polished. Many of which Blizz is having to do live, but so far, I am fine with all that. I just hope they keep up the steam through the seasons. Ill be interested to see where we go, but so far, they got me hooked. Good job Blizz. You put your raping ways behind you (hopefully) and maybe you can do something right for a change?

Maybe?

Maybe not?

And on that note, last transmission for 2022. We will be back to our normal preaching schedule come 2023.

May this year die in the fucking dumpster fire with everything in it. Stupid trash fucking year. Lets all do better in 2023.

I hope….
